LEAGUE EXPANSION FOR 2017-2018

Should the league expand from 10 to 12 teams for 2017-2018?

Please cast your vote.

Should we decide to expand,  I propose that we keep the playoff teams to 8, makes it easier that way.

Also, the two new teams would draft 2 players from each of the existing 10 teams rosters.  Existing teams would protect 15 players from their season-ending rosters.  Once 2 players are chosen from your team, you can pull back 5 more players.  Once every team has 2 players chosen from their rosters and pulled back the additional 5, the expansion teams would then get to pick 10 additional player from the remaining exposed players and/or from the free agent waiver wire list.

The incoming teams would then select 12 NHL keepers and up to 5 prospect eligible players (having played 82 or less NHL games excluding playoffs).

For the September Draft, the two non-playoff teams and the 2 expansion teams will draw for the first 4 picks of the draft.  Selection and weighting process can be discussed.

Any thoughts?

I am in favor if there are two good new teams that are added.

I like your other ideas about keeping the playoffs at 8 and doing a supplemental draft of 2 players from existing teams.

I am all for expanding the league. More the merrier, but to make the regular season worth something, I would not oppose a cut down to the top 6 teams. This is not the Campbell/Prince of Wales era, where everyone should make it

Looks like we have 2 YES votes and ) NO votes. Since no one else is voting, I guess we can expand.

With only 3 teams voting in the Forum poll and a 4-1 favorable vote count in ESPN, I think we can proceed with the expansion of the Super Dynasty Hockey League from a 10-team league to a 12-team league.

We have 3 people interested in joining our league. We can add two to expand to 12. IF anyone is thinking about NOT returning, please let me know so that we can have our league settled for next season.

The 8-team playoff bracket works the best for the last 6 weeks of the season. Plus it makes every playoff team have a chance with a 2-week playoff match.

I am thinking of amending the expansion draft procedures to as follows:

1) Each existing team keeps 15 players from their final rosters, exposing 15-18 players.
2) Then the 2 new teams would draft 2 players from each existing team, until they have a roster of 20.
3) Then each existing team would be able to pull back 5 players from their remaining exposed list of 15-18 that weren't drafted by the expansion teams.

AT THIS POINT ALL 12 TEAMS WOULD HAVE 20 PLAYERS ON THEIR ROSTERS.

4) The expansion teams would then be able to select up to 10 players from the remaining exposure lists and the free agent pool.
***No existing team can lose more than 3 players to each expansion team

This will give each expansion team 30 players from which to choose their 12+5 keepers for the 2017-108 season.
Each existing team will then have 24-27 still on their final rosters to choose their 12+5 keeper list for the 2017-2018 season.

After this Sunday's FAAB auction, which will be the last time teams will have a chance to add or change players on their rosters, please submit a preliminary list of 15 protected players, so that I can give the two incoming teams a list of available players subject to change of course.

Once our playoffs are completed, there will be a one-week window to trade before the expansion draft.  At the conclusion to this short trading period, teams will need to submit their FINAL PROTECTED LIST OF 15 PLAYERS.

At the time of this writing, Joe, Chris, Ray, Romie, Santucci and Stel are the only ones who have told me that they are returning. Jerry, Howie, Tushar and Dan need to get back to me ASAP about their status for next season.
